Black Contemporaries
The Black Contemporaries project is an initiative located inside the Tacoma Urban League as part of the broader Sankofa (Center) Project, in collaboration with Energize Tacoma. This effort aims to highlight and celebrate Black culture by showcasing contemporary Black artists and their work within the Tacoma community. Serving as a hub for cultural events, community engagement, and educational programs, the project emphasizes the richness of Black heritage and its influence on modern society. By integrating with the Sankofa Project, it underscores the importance of learning from the past to inspire and shape the future of the Black community.

Artist Statement
I have always been a creative person. I learned how to sew when I was 7 and continued to sew for a very long time. In 2003, I took my first ever landscape painting class and we used oil paints as the medium. I've been painting landscapes in oils ever since. I sometimes work in other mediums such as charcoal, pencil and pastels but I always come back to oils.

About Me
Hi, my name is Arnézia Wimberly! I am an artist, voice actress, and author of my original comic series, SaGia. I’ve been drawing since high school and I want to show the world my artworks! I hope you enjoy.
Artist Statement
My art reflects my emotions and imagination. I’m inspired by classic anime and manga, particularly the styles of Ken Sugimori and Akira Toriyama. I use watercolor pencils and ink to create vibrant, expressive pieces. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to explore their own creativity.
